Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick in Oh My Goth | Full Review + Swatches

Hello there!

Today's review is on the Kat Von D Foiled Love Lipstick in the shade Oh My Goth which is a beautiful metallic (or foiled) purplish brown lipstick that is just great for a vampy look for the fall and winter months!

True to color arm swatch in day light.
True to color lip swatch in day light.
Original retail price: $20

This lipstick has such a unique shade, it is brown based with purple and pink finely milled shimmer running through it...at first, I was expecting this to be a purple lipstick, but it is actually brown with purple. This lipstick is very easy and smooth to apply, it is definitely creamy and moisturizing as well, but I find that it is dry in a way that I have to layer this on two or three times to achieve a full rich pigment that is similar to the pigment on the tube. Even after several hours of wear, I find that this does stay on very vibrantly, but after eating and drinking, you will be needing to reapply.
This lipstick could also go runny so I definitely recommend using a lip liner...I find that the perfect lip liner to go with this is NYX's 830 Currant which has that same brown based purple only without the shimmer.

Overall, I highly recommend this lipstick! It is such a unique shade that you probably don't have in your collection yet and is just perfect for the colder months!

I hope you found this quick review helpful!

  • Walmart: $6.97
  • Target: $6.99
  • Walgreens: $7.99
  • CVS: $7.99
  • ULTA: $7.99

Ingredients:
Aqua / Water / Eau, Paraffin, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Acrylates Copolymer, Cera Alba / Beeswax / Cire Dabeille, Copernicia Cerifera Cera / Carnauba Wax / Cire De Carnauba, Ethylene/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, Steareth-2, Cetyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Acacia Senegal / Acacia Senegal Gum, Ethylenediamine/Stearyl Dimer Dilinoleate Copolymer, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Hydrogenated Palm Oil, Propylene Glycol, Disodium Edta, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Sodium Hyaluronate, 2-Oleamido-1,3-Octadecanediol, Panthenol, Silica, Soluble Collagen, Sodium Chondroitin Sulfate, Atelocollagen [+/- May Contain / Peut Contenir, Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499 / Iron Oxides, Ci 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, Ci 77007 / Ultramarines, Ci 75470 / Carmine, Mica]

A close up of the brush.
A close up of the 360 degree wand.
My curled lashes without product on it.
First Coat: Here I see some slight definition from my lashes, both top and bottom. Still zero clumps and flakes and it still held up the curl.
Second Coat:  Here is where I definitely see some volume starting to build in my lashes. Still zero clumps and flakes and although my lashes are still lifted, they aren't as curled as it was before I applied this mascara.
Third Coat: Here is where I start to see some length in my lashes. Still zero flakes but its starting to get spidery.
(I left the bottom lashes at 2 coats)
Fourth Coat: Here is where my lashes definitely start to get spidery. Still zero flakes so I'm super impressed by that!
(still left the bottom lashes at 2 coats)
Side by side comparison of my lashes at 4 coats on top and 2 coats on bottom on the left and zero coats on the right.
I think this mascara looks best at 1 coat for a natural looking definition, 2 coats for a little more dramatic lash, and 3 coats for that duper dramatic, nearly false lash effect.
Side by side comparison of my lashes at 4 coats on top and 2 on coats bottom on the left and 1 continuous coat of building up the mascara and not giving it time to dry between coats on the right (Which I think is the best method to get the full effect of this mascara).
Using the method of one continuous coat of building up the mascara and not giving it time to dry between coats such as the one on my right eye in the picture above is the best method to get the full effect of this mascara. I don't think doing this method gets you a manga lash, but I definitely think it gets you very close to a false lash effect.

Overall, I think this mascara is well worth the investment and for just about $7-8 on a great mascara, you can't go wrong! This mascara comes in Black, Black Waterproof, Blackest Black, Blackest Black Waterproof, and Black Brown (for reference I have Blackest Black). What I love about this mascara is that it is a great dupe or duplicate for Benefit's They're Real mascara, but I honestly think I prefer this over Benefit's!! I love how easy it is to remove, which could be a con if you have watery eyes, but that's why they have the waterproof formula for the exact same price! I also heard this is also a great dupe for Too Faced's Better Than Sex Mascara, but I haven't tried that mascara so I can't compare the two. I highly highly recommend this mascara and I will definitely repurchase it!!

I hope you found this review helpful to you!

130+ MAC Lipstick Dupes

Hello there Gorgeous!!

In this post, I have combined an ultimate list of Mac lipstick dupes, whether its from a drugstore/low-end brand or just an alternative.

I realized making a post for each lipstick with the dupes plus all the images with all the swatches in different lighting and such will take a LONG LONG time so I decided to just format this into an easy to follow list!

Makeup Tutorial | A Copper Smokey Eye

Hello there!

Just in time for the fall season, today's tutorial is on this copper smokey eye!

Here's the final eyeshadow look.

With my lids already primed, I started by blending the shade Taupe from the Lorac Pro Palette into my crease and upwards to the browbone.

With my Real Techniques Detail Brush, I took this e.l.f. Smudge Pot in Brownie points and placed it all over the moving part of my lid and slightly winged it out. This will be the base of our eyeshadows in the next few steps.

Using the Real Techniques Base shadow Brush we used earlier, I took the shade Sable and softly blended out the Brownie Points into the Taupe from the previous steps.

With the same brush, I took this MAC eyeshadow in Embark and deepened the crease while fully blending the three previous shadows together.

Using the same brush, I lightly blended the Garnet shade from the Lorac PRO palette over the Embark and Taupe shades.

Finally, I highlighted my inner corners and browbones with the Gold shade from the Lorac PRO palette, Curled my lashes, then added some mascara.
Here are the rest of the products I used for the rest of the look.
True Match Mineral Powder Foundation in 'Natural Beige W4-5/464', Smashbox Photo Set Pressed Powder in 'Dark' (for bronzer), Laura Geller blush n Brighten in Apricot Berry, Lorac Pro Palette, e.l.f. Eyelid Primer in Nude, Jordana Eyeliner in Black (brow pencil), MAC eyeshadow in Embark, e.l.f. HD Lifting Concealers in Light and Fair, e.l.f. Sudge Pot in Brownie Points, love&beauty liquid eyeliner in black, Benefit They're Real mascara, NYX lipliner in Currant, Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Black Cherry.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!
And don't forget to share some looks you've recreated, I'd love to see your recreations! :)

Finding the Perfect Eyeliner

Hello hello!

Have you ever wondered what is the perfect eyeliner?
I'm pretty sure we've all been there...whether you're a beginner or a pro, I'm sure that question has popped up at least once.

At least once, we've wondered what is the best eyeliner or what type of eyeliner to buy or what type of eyeliner would best suit an eyeshadow look you've created. Finding the 'perfect eyeliner' could definitely be a tricky task, but can make all the difference!

With a goal of helping you find the perfect eyeliner, I will tell you just about all that you need to know about eyeliners and when its best to use each one.

Pencil Eyeliner

Pencil eyeliners generally come in either a regular pencil form or a retractable pencil form (you typically get more product with the regular pencil forms). Pencil eyeliners tend to be what most people use for a day to day look as it gives a softer look and is what is recommended for starters to use.
I used pencil eyeliners for over two years before I moved on to using liquid/gel eyeliners.
I will have to agree that having an experience with pencil eyeliners makes applying other types of eyeliners so much easier!

Pros:
Provides a soft, natural look...easily smudges (may also be a con).
Doesn't require time to dry.
Great for upper/lower lash lines and the waterline and tight line (if waterproof).
Great for smokey eye or everyday looks.

Cons:
Doesn't provide a sharp, clean look (may also be a pro).
Requires sharpening (depending on what type you have).

Liquid Eyeliner

Generally has either a brush or felt tip applicator that looks like a pen. With liquid eyeliners, you need a steady hand and should apply very slowly by using short brushing strokes starting in the inner corner and close to the lash line.
Liquid eyeliners are great for bold and dramatic looks as they provide a clean, sharp finish.

Pros:
Great for sharp, clean looks, Arabic makeup, cat eyes, and dramatic looks.
Provides a well-defined, sharp, thin line or a thick bold line.

Cons:
Very difficult to apply well.
Typically cannot be applied on the lower lash line, waterline, and tight line.
Takes a very steady hand, patience, and tons of practice.

**Quick Tip: You can use a pencil eyeliner to quickly outline a specific eyeliner look and then go over your pencil outline with a gel/cream or liquid eyeliner.

Gel/Cream Eyeliner

Generally comes in a small pot that you can dip an angled brush, fine tip brush, or even a pencil eyeliner in to get the product out. Like a liquid eyeliner, you will need a steady hand as it is creamy and glides on very easily.
Since this liner takes a bit longer to dry, it is great for smudging along the lash line before it sets.
Just like a liquid eyeliner, gel eyeliners are great for bold and dramatic looks as they can achieve a clean, sharp finished look...but also like a pencil eyeliner, gel eyeliners are great for soft everyday looks as they can achieve a smudged out, soft finished look.

Pros:
Very creamy and easy to smudge (may also be a con).
Great for smokey eye looks.
Could be used as an eyeshadow base.

Cons:
Not as portable/convenient to travel with as a pencil or liquid eyeliner.
Like liquid eyeliner, you need a steady hand and tons of practice.
Typically cannot be applied on the waterline and tight line.

In my opinion, there really isn't a perfect eyeliner. I believe that it just depends on the look you're aiming to achieve because each eyeliner has its own pros and cons and serves its own unique purpose.
Out of the three however, I prefer using gel/cream eyeliners most because depending on the brush you use and how you apply it, it could create the same looks as both a pencil or a liquid eyeliner.

Considering the above information, what is your 'perfect eyeliner'? Or what type of eyeliner do you prefer to use?

Products Worth the Investment | Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara Review

Hello Gorgeous!!

On the hunt for a mascara that provides length and volume to your lashes without clumping or flaking?
I may have just the right product for you...the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara claims to be both a lengthening and volumizing mascara that doesn't clump or flake.

The Full Exposure Mascara is one of Smashbox's best sellers and according to the description in the site, it is inspired by the on-set technique of layering and lengthening fiber mascara over a volumizing formula, it is their studio-tested mascara that exposes your longest and fullest lashes without clumping or flaking.
According to the survey in the site, 104% experienced lash volume, while 32% experienced lash length.

A close up of the brush, its just your typical mascara brush, nothing too different or unique about it. However, I think it has the perfect shape and size to reach those inner and outer corners of your lashes without clumping. I think the bristles are just the right length and are perfectly spaced apart to separate your lashes and prevent any clumping...this brush is also on the larger side, so if you're not a fan of bigger brushes, you might not like this.
My curled lashes without any product on them.
First Coat. My eyelashes still look quite natural, only slightly longer and fuller. If I was to use this mascara as a natural/everyday look, this will do the job perfectly.
Second Coat. I definitely see a lot of length and volume in each individual lash. There's still no signs of clumps building up and I think this is mainly because of the structure of the brush.
Third Coat. By the third coat, my lashes seem to have a lot of length and volume, but still hasn't reached the 'false lash' or '3D Fiber Mascara' effect. My lashes still have very minimal clumps, they are not spidery at all, and they don't feel like they're sticking to my lower lashes when I blink.
Final Results of three coats on the top lashes and one light coat on the bottom lashes.
I think if you comb your lashes with a lash comb after the third coat, you can still go on with a fourth (or even a fifth coat) to get super dramatic lashes.

The Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara is my favorite mascara at the moment! I have tried a hand full of mascaras from both drugstore to high-end brands and I must say, this is my favorite mascara (so far)! I swear by this mascara, it gives a lot of length and volume without clumping my lashes. I'm usually good to go with just one or two coats, but I wanted to see how far this mascara could go, and by the third coat, my lashes weren't clumpy, heavy, flaky or spidery at all!

Overall, I love love love this mascara! I compare all my mascaras to this one and I still haven't found one that could compare! I love how this mascara is on the dryer side and the combination of the formula with the brush is just genius! It gives you really natural looking long and full lashes! I have recently experimented with layering this over a more volumizing mascara like the Benefit They're Real Mascara to get that 'false lash effect', its what works the best for me so far!
Love love love this mascara, I already bought a full size as a backup for when I run out of my sample size one! I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to try a new mascara!

The Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara is available in Smashbox's website for $19.50

Let me know what you think!
I'd love to hear some of your mascara recommendations too!

Makeup Tutorial: A Go-to/Everyday Smokey Eye

Hello hello!!

Happy November!
Todays makeup tutorial is one of my favorite go-to eye looks that are suitable for everyday wear and with the change of a lip color, could even pass for a night out. One of the main reasons I really enjoy this look is because it makes you look like you've spent more time doing your makeup than you actually did.

The finished look.

Using my Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush, I blended this Sue Devitte eyeshadow all over the lid and up on the crease.

Using the same Real Techniques Brush, I blended the Slate shade from the Lorac PRO Palette 1 into the outer-V and into the crease. Using a Real Techniques Detail Brush, I smudged the same Slate shade halfway through the bottom lash line.
I then lined and winged my eyes and added some mascara to finish this look.
For the rest of the look, I used the e.l.f. Mineral face Primer, L'oreal True Match Mineral Powder Foundation in 'Natural Beige W4-5/464', Smashbox Photo Set Pressed Powder in 'Dark' (for bronzer), Smashbox 'Hint of Bronze' Blush (for bronzer), Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in 'Flush', e.l.f. Studio Blush in 'Pink Passion', Milani Bella Gel Powder Eyeshadow in '28-Bella Chiffon', e.l.f. Eyelid Primer in 'Nude', e.l.f. Cream eyeliner in 'Black', e.l.f. Eyelash Primer, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara, Sue Devitte eyeshadow in '', Lorac PRO Palette 1, and a Jordana Twist & Shine in 'Honey Love'.
